Chatter Boxes.

An interactive sound based landmark.

CHATTERBOXES facilitate interactions between beach-goers of all ages mixing sound, mystery and fun. Each booth is connected to another by speaking tubes. The essential factor being that you don’t know which booth you’re communicating with. The structure’s roof contains cones which deliver sound from the locale outside down onto the occupier of each listening booth.

The structure is designed to be CNC cut from birch ply then clad with treated pine tongue and groove planks.

As a designer my initial response is always to consider the particular characteristics of the people the design hopes to serve as well as the uniqueness of the location and its existing forces. In this case, wind, sunlight, sound and activity.
